Malaysian culture in Kuala Lumpur

You could be forgiven for thinking that such a new and modern city as Kuala Lumpur may not be blessed with many cultural sights. However, the Malaysian people are fiercely proud of their heritage with all manner of art, literature and theatre on show for any visitor to KL including some wonderful folk dancing and ancient batik painting.

The unique blend of constituent races in Malaysia has given drama in Kuala Lumpur a magical quality. And strongly influenced by both Indonesia to the south and Thailand to the north, folk dancing can be seen at many cultural events in Kuala Lumpur. Ballet is also popular in the city due to the country’s history as a former British colony, and an extremely lively performance culture has blossomed from these foundations.
