Kuala Lumpur Transportation - getting here
Getting to Kuala Lumpur is generally no major headache as the city is extremely well served by air, rail, road and sea routes. Most visitors coming into the city arrive via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or its sister LCCT Terminal nearby. From here it is a quick half-an-hour train ride or 90-minute coach trip to the city centre.
Kuala Lumpur is also situated directly on the famous Singapore to Bangkok rail route with many different services available from 3rd class tickets to luxury sleepers. The historic train station in the centre of KL is a wonder of colonial Moorish architecture and a popular tourist attraction in its own right. Now intercity services use the modern terminus at KL Sentral which also houses airport transfers.

To get to Port Klang catch the train service from KL Sentral - the connection costs RM2.20 and departs every 30 minutes. The journey takes an hour and deposits passengers directly outside the harbour, from where ferry tickets can be purchased for the relatively short trip to Sumatra.
Indomal Express services to Dumai depart daily at 09:00 and 10:30, taking around three hours and costing RM100. Alternatively, Aero Speed services to Tanjung Balai leave at 11:00 from Monday to Saturday and cost RM120. Trip time for the latter is around three-and-a-half hours.
